140 participants from Germany, the European Union, the US, Canada, Russia and China  gathered last week on occasion of the 1. CLIB International Conference in Duesseldorf/Germany.

International academic institutes and companies addressed the future impact of industrial biotechnology in product as well as process innovation. Among others the potential of biotechnological rubber, adhesives, spider proteins or amylopectin has been discussed. Impressing developments in plant-based, enzymatic and microbial production systems were presented. A special focus was set on renewable carbon sources like sugar, lignocellulose and synthesis gas including the challenge of economical and ecological beneficial production and transformation.

This conference aimed on initiating future international R&D partnering projects. Looking on the briskness of discussion this conference will in fact be the starting point of new consortia paving the way to the Knowledge-Based BioEconomy (KBBE).

The 2. CLIB International Conference will be organized in April, 2011 in Duesseldorf. Look for future details!
