The production of proteins represents a fundamental prerequisite for White Biotechnology enabling the production of novel biocatalysts or therapeutic antibodies. Efficient expression systems are needed to ensure protein production, therefore, the platform „Expression“ persues the construction of novel vector systems and microorganisms as expression hosts to enable overexpression, correct folding and secretion of novel proteins. As an interdisciplinary collaboration of many research groups from universities, research centres, small and medium-sized entities (SMEs) and big Biotech-companies, the platform “Expression“ provides expertise in the fields of expression methodology, novel host strains, high throughput screening and selection systems, ultrasensitive protein analytics, fermentation technology ranging from very small to large scales, and modern techniques of down-stream processing. Ultrasensitive detection methods are used to establish expression systems in a highly parallel microtiter plate format enabling the rapid identification of an optimal expression strategy for a given protein.
